Related to country: Palestine

Barack Obama Speech
Related to country: United States

My fellow citizens:
I stand here today humbled by the task before us, grateful for the trust you have bestowed, mindful of the sacrifices borne by our ancestors. I thank President Bush for his service to our nation, as well as the generosity and cooperation he has shown throughout this transition.
Forty-four Americans have now taken the presidential oath. The words have been spoken during rising tides of prosperity and the still waters of peace. Yet, every so often the oath is taken amidst gathering clouds and raging storms. At these moments, America has carried on not simply because of the skill or vision of those in high office, but because we the people have remained faithful to the ideals of our forebears, and true to our founding documents.
So it has been. So it must be with this generation of Americans.
That we are in the midst of crisis is now well understood. Our nation is at war, against a far-reaching network of violence and hatred. Our economy is badly weakened, a consequence of greed and irresponsibility on the part of some, but also our collective failure to make hard choices and prepare the nation for a new age. Homes have been lost; jobs shed; businesses shuttered. Our health care is too costly; our schools fail too many; and each day brings further evidence that the ways we use energy strengthen our adversaries and threaten our planet.

Is Palestinian blood cheaper than others?
Related to country: Palestine

How many dead Palestinians will it take for the world to act? Can United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon tell the families of the 195 innocent people who were massacred by Israel yesterday why he wouldn't even try to protect Palestinians in Gaza the way he does citizens of other countries? Is Palestinian blood cheaper than Myanmarese, American and French or for that matter Israeli blood?

Maybe these painful questions should be posed to Arab states which have failed to come to the rescue of Gaza. The ravaged, miserable strip had been under siege for more than one year. Its people have been without food and power for many months. And they have not asked for anything more than a sense of human solidarity with their plight. And instead of getting the independent state which US President George W. Bush promised to deliver by the end of the year, the Palestinians are today burying their dead. The massacre is Israel's gift to the Palestinians and the Arabs who today celebrate the new Islamic year.

For long enough, Arabs have been pleading with Israel to embrace peace. Meanwhile, the Jewish state is busy with an election that will see its politicians compete with one another in butchering Palestinians. Kill 100 and you are assured of a seat in the Knesset. Kill 200 and become a minister.

One really wonders what the Arab foreign ministers are going to say when they meet in Cairo today and tomorrow. Calling on Israel again to 'choose the path of peace'? Appealing to the international community to 'exert pressure' on Israel and the US to revive the peace process? Too little too late.

Today the Arab League has to draw the line very clear. The Arab peace initiative is no longer an option. Israel has rejected it anyway. The protection of Palestinians should be the only plan on the table today.

AIMUN
About this event: Alexandria International Model United Nations 2008
Related to country: Egypt

What is AIMUN? The AIMUN is a non-formal educational method implemented in Alexandria for the first time by SDA to prepare and motivate ....... mmm that’s the same definition from www.sda-web.org , actually it’s a copy paste from the article about AIMUN, and that is far from what I want to talk about...

It all started last year, I was bored, had huge fights with all of my friends, I had a lot of free time and I did not really know what shall I spare it in… My only salvation was to go more to the BA .I went there to read more and enhance my knowledge. One day I saw one of my college friends; I waved to him and started talking about many things. I wondered about the book he was holding, so I asked him; what is it about? He told me that this book has to do with the UN and that he is a part of the Academic Committee of the Model United Nations then he started to talk about AIMUN .After a long conversation which I barely understood, He told me to check the website of SDA the NGO that organizes the AIMUN and that I will find an application form for the people interested to participate.

Two days has passed after the conversation I had with Ahmed Belal and I remembered that I didn't check the web site. I was so curious to know more about this Model UN, so, I opened the website and found a whole topic talking about AIMUN and also the application form that I decided to fill right away. A couple of days passed and the SDA folks actually called me for an interview. I was shaking at first, but when I went to the interview I got more tensed!! Lol!! Nevertheless I have passed the interview with great success Thank God.

The Model started and I was excited yet scared that I was a little alone… However during the sessions I knew that fighting with my friends was not the end of the world; it was the beginning of a new one! I made lots of new friends, I even gained a new best friend and I am now a part of a lovely group of buddies called the AIMUNers. In fact the conference made the best three days in my entire life that I can never forget.

I can’t forget the joy, happiness, knowledge and all the things I have earned last year. The dream which is coming true now that I’m part of the fourth model .Its hard but I like it so much and within it I have earned more and more experience that has been added to my credit since then.

Last year I redefined my view of friends, good company and learning. This year I want to Re-define Green and … I m waiting to see what else I will seek to change along my new friends.

An AIMUNer forever
